Google’s tools and technologies had a major impact on the UAE economy in 2024, contributing an estimated AED 21.8 billion (over $5.9 billion), according to a new Economic Impact Report commissioned by Google and conducted by the independent research agency Public First.
The report highlights how Google’s AI-powered platforms—like Search, Maps, YouTube, and Google Ads—are helping people, businesses, and communities in the UAE become more productive and digitally connected.
Boosting Daily Productivity
One of the key findings of the report is how Google’s AI tools are enhancing productivity for both individuals and businesses. These tools are making everyday tasks easier, whether it’s finding quick answers on Search, getting around with Google Maps, or using Gemini—Google’s AI assistant.
- 63% of adults in the UAE use Gemini, with 90% saying it boosts their productivity.
- 71% found Gemini easier to use in Arabic than other AI chatbots.
- Half of all adults say Google Search is essential in their daily lives.
- 89% rely on Maps or Waze to avoid getting lost.
- 90% find mobile payments via GPay or GWallet very convenient.
Helping Businesses Grow
Google’s tools are also supporting UAE businesses in their growth and operations:
- 91% of UAE businesses use at least one AI tool.
- 73% of young adults (ages 18–24) use Google Search weekly to browse or shop online.
- 80% use Google Maps or Waze monthly to find local businesses.
- 86% check Google reviews monthly before visiting a business.
- 94% use Google Search to compare prices.
- 97% of public sector employees said Google’s AI tools help them be more efficient at work.
Supporting Communities and Creators
Google also plays a big role in empowering creators, developers, and publishers in the UAE:
- The Android App Economy generated AED 455 million in revenue for UAE-based developers in 2024.
- There are now 600+ YouTube channels in the UAE with over 1 million subscribers, up 15% from last year.
- The Google News Initiative trained over 20,000 journalists and journalism students across the MENA region.
Training the Workforce for the Future
Since 2018, more than 430,000 people in the UAE have learned essential digital and AI skills through Google’s training program “Maharat Min Google”, aimed at building a future-ready, tech-savvy workforce.
About the Research
The report was developed using surveys of 1,110 online adults and 389 business leaders in the UAE, conducted in March 2025 in both English and Arabic. The results were adjusted to reflect national demographics accurately.
